About Thomas P. Durels

Thomas P. Durels is Executive Vice President, Real Estate, at Empire State Realty Trust. Mr. Durels supervises all company real estate activities including leasing, property redevelopment, property management, construction and new development. Previously, he was Executive Vice President of Malkin Holdings, a predecessor to Empire State Realty Trust, which he joined in 1990. Mr. Durels' is responsible for all leasing strategies and decisions, and the redevelopment of Empire State Realty Trust's New York City pre-war office buildings, including the Empire State Building. At ESRT's predecessor, Malkin Holdings, Mr. Durels supervised acquisitions and had direct involvement in all investment and acquisition decisions, and was involved in acquisitions and structured equity investments of over $1.1 billion. He negotiated the acquisitions and oversaw redevelopments of the sq ft First Stamford Place in Stamford, CT, 310 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich, CT (site of former Greenwich Post Office, rezoned and converted for retail use and lease to Restoration Hardware), and other office, urban retail and multi-family properties. He also oversaw the development of Metro Green, a transit-oriented mixed-use development located in Stamford, CT, including design and zoning approvals for Metro Tower, a sq. ft. office tower. Mr. Durels graduated from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1983. He is a past Treasurer of the Young Men’s and Women’s Real Estate Association, a member of the Real Estate Board of New York and Urban Land Institute, and is a licensed real estate broker in New York and Connecticut.
