About Thomas Richter

I was born in 1967, studied IT (Dipl.), Technical Journalism, and BIS (M.Sc.). For three years, I worked self-employed as IT-Consultant and technical writer. Since my return from twelve months of field research in Seoul, South Korea (2007), I work at the University of Duisburg-Essen where I conducted lectures, research and managed European projects, and finally, defended my doctoral thesis in economics (Dr. rer. pol). My doctoral thesis can be found at: My main research interests are related to culture research, e-Learning, OERs, Process Analysis, International Management, Quality Management, and Educational Standards. I initiated the internationally applied Learning Culture Survey and published several papers in well-established conferences and renowned journals. I am curious and like to look behind the obvious. I am particularly interested in interdisciplinary research and intercultural working scenarios. For the future, I would like to contribute to the improvement of intercultural relationships, be it in the field of education, management, or working scenarios. I am further on looking for universities which are willed to support the Learning Culture Survey by distributing it amongst their students (online survey; for the contributing universities, just sending an invitation - e-Mail is required). The questionnaire is available in German, English, French, Korean, Japanese, Greek, Portuguese, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Bulgarian, Russian, and Turkish, whereas the latter three language versions still require a review and maybe, improvements.
