About Thomas Rioux
I have loved the thought of designing and building structures since I was young, building wooden structures like tree forts in my spare time. The moment I knew that I wanted to be a structural engineer was when we were designing balsa wood bridges in my intro to civil engineering course. I was astounded that a bridge only weighing 0.5 lbs could support 46 lbs when the wood was placed in the right way. Over the past few years, I have gained useful skills through my experience in structural design with VHB on numerous projects ranging from bridge and trail maintenance at Acadia National Park to the West Mountain Expansion at Sugarloaf. My areas of interest are rock climbing, motor boating, fishing, and cooking. I currently live in the greater Portland area and intend to stay here for the foreseeable future.
