About Thomas Ritter

I am currently Professor of Medicine with a strong interest in Ocular Therapeutics at the University of Galway.> My major research interest is in developing novel gene- and cell therapeutics for immune-mediated diseases of the ocular surface.> I am currently leading a large European Consortium RESTORE VISION to develop novel and repurposed drugs for rare disease of the ocular surface >I have published 100 original articles in peer-reviewed journals and 30 reviews. Moreover I have given more than 50 invited lectures, seminars and oral presentations at conferences and institutions > Since my appointment at University of Galway in 2005 I was successful in obtaining substantial funding from several funding agencies including Science Foundation of Ireland (SFI), Health Research Board (HRB), Irish Research Council (IRC) and the European Union FP7, H2020 and HorizonEurope programmes totalling in approx. €6M in direct costs.> I am Associate Editor of Molecular Therapy and also serve as a referee for many journals including Biomaterials, Gene Therapy, Invest. Ophthal. Vis. Sci.(IOVS), Transplantation, Transplant Immunology, Transplant International, BMC Ophthalmology.> I am also grant assessor for the German Research Foundation (DFG), Wellcome Trust and Action Medical Research (UK).> I am member of the German Society of Immunology (DFGI), Irish Society of Gene and Cell Therapy (ISGCT, founding member) and the American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy (ASGCT).>Vice-Dean for Research for the College of Medicine at NUI Galway from 2012-2017
