About Thomas Rivard

As a futurist, urban designer, architect, communicator and educator, I work to ensure urban projects are resilient and adaptable to transformations in climate, resources, demographics and economics. Cities may have prompted some of our current challenges – today, they are the single largest instrument available for us to integrate ecological, social and technical knowledge to face the future. With decades of experience in climate change and adaptation framed by global changes, I have developed a practice base in Environmental City-making, integrating natural ecologies, diverse communities and regenerative infrastructure. A dedicated multi-disciplinarian, I synthesise cultural, economic and social operations and the built and natural environments in which they thrive. Through teaching, lecturing and writing widely, I advocate for a productive future of radical co-existence, telling better stories now, about those futures.
