Background
About Thomas Roosens
I didn’t set out to build a life in IT.I grew into it.In 2005, I moved from Belgium to the United States to work as an IT assistant at the Embassy of Belgium in Washington, D.C. At the time, my background was in business—but when our Systems Administrator left a year later, I found myself stepping into the unknown. That’s when something clicked. What started as necessity quickly became curiosity. I wanted to understand how systems actually worked—Windows Servers, domain controllers, DNS, networks, Subnets, TCP/IP. The more I learned, the more I realized I had found my path.A few years later, I was given an opportunity that would define my early career: building out a complete network for a remote wind farm site.I designed and deployed the environment from the ground up—domain controllers, DNS, Active Directory structure, file and print services, and end-user systems. It was the first time I wasn’t just supporting a system—I was building one. That experience shaped how I approach technology to this day.Since then, I’ve continued to deepen my technical foundation—teaching myself virtualization technologies, designing and managing VMware environments, and solving increasingly complex infrastructure challenges. Over time, my role evolved.Today, as Deputy CTO, my focus is on IT strategy, systems architecture, and building environments that are scalable, resilient, and efficient. I work to align technology with organizational goals while ensuring the systems underneath are clean, reliable, and maintainable. I still stay close to the technology—especially in automation and systems design—but my greatest impact now comes from enabling teams, improving processes, and creating clarity in complex environments. I believe strong systems and strong teams go hand in hand—because technology works best when the people behind it are supported and empowered. My approach is grounded in discipline, clarity, and execution—building systems that work, and helping people thrive within them.
