Background

About Thomas Russell Freure

I have a Doctorate in History from the University of Waterloo (Tri-University Graduate Program), with a major in Comparative Cold War History concentrating on the Reagan era, and minors in War and Society and Modern U.S. History with a focus on modern conservatism. My dissertation is among the first studies to thoroughly explore the connection between Ronald Reagan, modern American conservatism, and the Religious Right, particularly the more direct long-term impact of this relationship on the American zeitgeist. It is also an attempt to help explain how the Religious Right succeeded in embedding itself within the national fabric and placing its agenda at the fore of the public-political discourse. Though my dissertation focuses on more contemporary American socio-political and religious history, I have published and presented articles dealing with subjects such as early twentieth century U.S. foreign policy and international law, Flemish nationalism, as well as the Japanese Canadian experience in Ontario during the Second World War.
