Background
About Thomas Sicko
Hi, I’m Thomas! I’m a charismatic business graduate with a proven track record in exceeding customer needs and a passion for learning. Throughout my studies, I accrued over 8 years of retail experience through working part-time, including 4 years in a commission-based environment. Working in telecommunications with sales targets pushed me to enhance my communication skills, as I actively engaged customers and tailored solutions to their needs. I continuously exceeded the established sales targets; besting the store average by 36% in 2012 and by 20% in 2013. While studying for my undergraduate degree, I developed a passion for travelling, which has led me to participate in study abroad programs in Germany, China and Australia. I also volunteered at the John Molson International Committee, welcoming foreign students and organizing extracurricular activities. From these experiences, I developed a confidence in dealing with people from different backgrounds and belief systems. After graduating with a bachelor in Business Administration, I spent almost 4 years as a lead flight attendant with Air Canada. I’ve flown over 1.5 million miles, enough to go to the moon and back 3 times, bringing passengers anywhere from Honolulu to Athens. I had the opportunity to develop my leadership skills in my position, managing teams of 3 to 6 crew members inflight. I was assigned a wide range of responsibilities, including ensuring the proper implementation of the company’s service standards onboard and providing feedback through pre-and-post flight briefings to flight attendants under my supervision. I was also regularly tasked with finding creative solutions to problems that would arise in flight, with often limited resources at my disposal. As a firm believer in not only speaking of change but actively seeking to be part of it, I also became a trainer during the implementation of a new bidding system for flight attendants. As the previous system was over 30 years old, the company’s modernization efforts came with a steep learning curve for flight crew which bid for their schedule monthly. After attending training on the new system, I provided online and in-person training for several months following the implementation. I strove to continuously improve the format of the training by taking into account the most frequent concerns that were being brought forth, which enabled me to develop a concise course on the new system.
