About Thomas Staten

I am a sport and exercise psychology doctoral candidate approaching the completion of my studies and actively seeking challenges that will enhance my development. My research interests include: • Strengths-based high performing systems and organisations • Multi-disciplinary approaches to supporting dual-career athletes • Ethical sport psychology practice within MDT systems • The role of the sport psychologist in the recovery from long-term Sports-Related Concussion I have 10 years experience in supporting performance level student-athletes with their education, wellbeing and sporting performance. My strengths-based work aims to support players through transitions by collaborating with them to increase their self-awareness and equip them with self-management skills to face the challenges that are an inherent part of being a performance athlete, enabling them to better understand themselves as a person, athlete and member of their organisation. I have also worked with organisations to facilitate organisational change through a collaborative process that enables stakeholders to identify a strengths-based core of the organisation through appreciating what they are already excelling at, and utilising this as a platform for further growth.
