Background

About Thomas Trainer

I am currently working as a Partnerships Officer at Act Belong Commit, where I onboard and support community partners in promoting the importance of mental health and wellbeing within the Western Australian Community. I have also recently completely my Masters in Public Health at Curtin University. Due to my undergraduate studies of Microbiology and Immunology at The University of Western Australia, I have a genuine passion for the study of blood-borne viruses and sexual health. My Masters in Public Health allowed me to build on this strong foundation, developing the skills that will allow me to effectively promote health and make meaningful change in my community. Earlier in 2024, I completed an internship at the Department of Health with the Cancer Networks Unit, where I completed a desktop analysis to inform recommendations for the upcoming WA Cancer Plan. I have also previously worked as a research assistant at CERIPH on a consultation for Living Proud, as well as the City of Vincent and WAAC, where I contributed to community health programs. For over the last five years I have also been working at Crown Towers Perth in the Crystal Club Lounge. This has allowed me to develop excellent time management and teamwork skills, as well as a comfortability with flexible work hours. I have also undertaken exciting opportunities such as volunteering at WAAC, and completing a Parliamentary Research Program on the topic of “Effective primary health care needs of Western Australian LGBTIQA+ communities.”
