Having been part of the industry as a branding mentor and being an educator for more than sixteen years I have realized something - students irrespective of the generation that they belong to need to be given confidence nudged to take up challenges and instilled with hope to move forward when life gets tough. Unemployability among students is a reality validated by multiple research reports over several years. More than dismissing it as a statistic relevant to the education sector I believe that the industry also has a pivotal proactive role to play in the lives of students by offering them opportunities to work on projects internships and shopfloors before employing them full-time. While consulting with organizations in brand management there was an unexpected similarity. People at work require handholding and confidence-building to take up responsibilities managers need nudging to try the untested path and leaders are looking for hope and fresh strategic perspectives. As an Academic Advisor to Brands & Folks Consulting and Whitespace Brand Consulting I have been fortunate to work with leaders across diverse sectors partake in their challenges in crafting the desired culture and help participate in institution building. All of us need to start taking up mentorship roles share experiences showcase knowledge and show the path ahead. It is equally essential to provide learning experiences in a way that is pragmatic and as close to reality as possible both on campus and in corporate offices. In my current role as the Head of the Department at CAIAS along with practice-based educational efforts we invite industry experts thought leaders and skilled practitioners to share their stories teach their methods and inspire a young generation.
