About Tiese Roxbury
Tiese Roxbury discovered her love for education and sports at E.A. Laney High School in North Carolina where she was a three sport athlete who played volleyball, basketball, & ran track. From there she received the Michael Jordan Scholarship and was selected to be a recipient of the Gates Millennium Scholarship in the inaugural year. She used that scholarship to major in Mathematics at Salem College, where she continued playing volleyball and basketball. In 2010, Tiese completed a Ph.D. program in Educational Research Methodology with a cognate in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She wrote her dissertation on the psychometric properties of a state assessment program as she evaluated the effects of testing accommodations. She then pursued a career that would combine her passions of athletics and academics, while also allowing her to continue researching a unique population. In the future, she hopes to apply her research in order to better develop and help athletes at all levels.
