About Tiffany N. Chavis

As the Outreach and Education Librarian at the University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) for the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM), my focus is on outreach and education. In this role, I foster partnerships, coordinate outreach efforts, and provide education programing for the region focused on consumer health, patient education, and health literacy. Some of the educational programing and services may include multi-modal instruction for classes, workshops, symposia, the creation of online guides and tutorials, etc. In addition, technical assistance and guidance is provided to organizations who have been awarded NNLM funding for projects within the region. The overall goal is to build partnerships and improve access to health information for medical professionals, librarians, and communities throughout the region. As a student, at the University of Maryland College Park, I completed and internship working as a student archivist and consultant at Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery Special Collections at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). This later turned into a part-time position. I have since worked on a couple archival projects to remain active in the field, even if not practicing as a full-time archivist. Before my career change, I have practiced as a clinical social worker with experience in various areas, including child and adolescents, substance abuse, mental health, medical, homelessness, forensics, case management, program management, etc. Not only do I have a diverse set of skills, I also have years of experience working with diverse populations and meeting their needs, whether the need is for information, basic needs, or treatment.
