In my 10 years at Paramount Pictures, I had the dream-come-true privilege of working on global brands like Star Trek, Transformers, Ninja Turtles and my absolute favorite movie franchise of all time – Mission: Impossible. I love brand management because, much like managing people, I believe it’s about building empathetic, strong, and meaningful relationships. Empathy is not just about being able to relate to the people on the teams we lead but also about the ability to authentically relate to consumers around the world. All of us have strong emotions about the brands that we allow into our lives and we’re more attentive than ever about what a brand stands for because we, as consumers, want the brands we choose to reflect our values. I believe that brands can be more than just their products, and that brands have the ability to enhance the communities in which they exist. So, as brand marketers, we have a powerful responsibility to do something constructive with the affinity that our brands have with consumers. Great brands plant a flag and stand for a better, more equitable future. Great brands have an authentically positive impact in the lives of real people.
