Background
About Tim Amos
My practice spans all aspects of family law. I am predominantly known as an expert in "big money" family finance, married or unmarried, alive or dead (including claims under the Inheritance Act). I am especially interested in Anglo-German cases and those with a foreign or international element. Qualified Collaborative Lawyer and the first Collaborative Family Law QC at the English Bar. I am a Family Recorder (part-time deputy judge) and also a Resolution Mediator. From 2001-8 I was Standing Counsel to the Queen's Proctor, a government appointment to advise the Treasury Solicitor on all matters of family law with a public interest element, including the validity of foreign marriages and divorces. I am fluent in German (including legal German) and have good working-French. I have undertaken work experience in German Courts and German law firms. This has led to involvement in an increasing number of cases with an Anglo-German element and/or German-speaking clients or witnesses, and those with disclosure issues relating to assets in German-speaking jurisdictions. The legal directories have variously described me as having “awesome ability to cut through detail”, an “unshakeable grasp of a case”, “rigorous attention to detail” and “the patience of a saint”; and being “fairly tough but very nice, you know that he is really going to take a case forward”. I was previously Chambers UK Family Law Junior of the Year in 2005 and was runner-up for the same award in both 2006 and 2007. Appointed QC in 2008 and a Family Recorder (deputy judge), in 2009 I became a Mediator in 2010. The latest edition of Chambers UK (October 2011) says: “despite his relatively brief time in silk Tim has managed to build a fantastic reputation. His ability to handle complex international work is applauded, as is his tactical instinct and strategic decision-making. He also has a ‘really nice manner with clients – he makes them feel at ease and important.’ " Specialties: International marriage and divorce, financial remedies (ancillary relief), financial provision, Anglo-Germanophone issues.
