Background
About Tim Astle
I've had a wide variety of experience in the software industry. I started off taking Virtual Reality Technology at College. I streamed in Project Management and Computer Programmer.(C, C++/w MFC, Java) During that time we wrote a video game and I had a chance to demo some work to Alexey Pajitnov, the creator of Tetris. He was the head of the newly founded Microsoft Internet Gaming Division. I later worked at a couple of other smaller companies. The first I was a Lead Developer on a variety of projects, mostly web applications and creating a few video games. I worked on the first Alpine Beer website, and had a chance to contribute to the WebCT project in I had a lot of opportunity to grow and work closely with clients to develop solutions that fit their needs. I also created an application for the trucking industry using the Palm OS 3 series of PDA, worked with the early KVM (later to become J2ME) and finally did some neo cell phone web application development. I did consultant work for a short period in Nashville, TN, USA for a company that specialized in providing day-to-day operations systems for the Judicial, Correctional, and Medical industries. I went on to study Computer Science while continuing working on some of the above projects and did some other custom web application and RPC-based project development. I worked for 13 years in the Geospatial field, where I was involved in various interesting projects on top of managing the Web Services team where we would enable spatial data in various interesting and standard ways. This included vessel tracking, tide analysis, web-enabling both navigational charts and water column data. Also was involved in several NSDIs. Worked with the military and governments of several countries on several projects. I'm also involved in several open source projects. I was a former committer @ the codehaus for Mojo development as well as a current committer to the JAXB OGC Schemas project @ Java.net. I've since made a pivot and moved to Salesforce where I worked on Social Studio and then the data platform that moved Social data into Salesforce SCS. Currently I work on Data360 (formerly Data Cloud. the name keeps changing). I'm on the connectors team and have designed, responsible for, or contributed underlying architecture for the following list of connectors- Mobile SDK - Web SDK - Ingestion API - CRM (native)- Slack I've saved the company hundreds of millions of dollars a year with some designs, but great relationships with people is what I take the most pride in.
