About Tim Ault

Experienced diplomat and strategy leader with deep expertise in international governance, regulatory diplomacy, and science-informed policy. I bring more than 20 years of public-sector experience delivering complex policy, trade and sustainability outcomes in Australia and overseas. With specialised expertise in standards and conformity assessment, I lead cross-government strategies to address regulatory and sustainability-related barriers to trade, including in agriculture, fisheries and clean energy. As DFAT Tasmania State Director, I worked across government and industry to position Tasmania as a renewable energy hub, promoting projects such as Marinus Link, pumped hydro and the Bell Bay Hydrogen Hub to international partners. I am known for building strong stakeholder networks, guiding high-performing teams, and representing Australia effectively in multilateral forums. With a PhD in ecology and extensive policy leadership experience, I combine scientific literacy with strategic acumen to support Australia’s transition to a clean, reliable and sustainable future.
