About Tim Bartelds

I started at Herman Miller on May 30, 1994 and I worked in the panel department building acoustical panels. Within the first month of my start date I was able to move to a hi-lo driver position, and within the following two months I moved into the maintenance department. I have been working in the maintenance department at Herman Miller since August of 1994. During my first 5 years at Herman Miller I served on the Zeeland City Fire Department which included taking the needed certification for firefighter I. I also went to Davenport College to work towards my Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. In the spring of I received an apprenticeship position at the Herman Miller Chair Plant. In February of 2002 I received my journeyman's certification for machine repair, and in September of 2002 I was able to complete my second Associate Degree from Grand Rapids Community College in manufacturing. During my career at Herman Miller I have focused on being the maintenance person who takes on the new technology that Herman Miller needs to have in manufacturing. When training is needed for new equipment I volunteer to go, and then train the rest of the group when I get back. This has lead me to be the go-to person for the automated fabric cutting equipment, the programmable sewing machines, and the electric/pulse/clutch tools in the chair plant. Along with my maintenance duties I have been the maintenance department safety representative. My goal at work is to complete the job correctly the first time, while maintaining a safe work environment. Outside of work I enjoy time with my wife and five children camping, fishing, and bike riding.
