About Tim Belcher-Whyte

I am an Associate Techncial Director with over 15 years experience in the design and management of highway bridges. I particularly enjoy working on complex or unusual engineering problems, but my passion is in providing high quality asset management services to client, with a focus on analysis and assessment to ensure the full reserves of strength in our bridges stock can be utilised and avoid unneccessary replacements. I have recent experience in leading complex assessments into aging concrete bridges, including post and pre-tensioned structures, historic concrete structures include Hennebique designs, and structures with concrete hinges. My experience is rooted in my first principals education, developed through traditional consultancy work. My work has encompassed a full range of design and asset management projects relating to concrete and steel highway bridges, footbridges, and rail overbridges, and has included specification writing, construction design support and extensive NEC contract management. For over ten years I have worked as part of an expert team providing specialist advise on the load management of Auckland Harbour Bridge and am now lead technical advisor to the Bridge Authority on their bespoke traffic loading model (BSALL models) For six years I was appointed lead Structural Engineer to Rochester Bridge Trust, succeeding Thomas Telford, William Cubitt and Joseph Bazalgette, providing professional advice and services to the 600-year-old charity on the management of their bridge assets. During that time I implemented and analysed data from an SHM system to prove the functioning of 100-year-old bridge bearings, and delivered designs for the refurbishment and strengthening of the historic 250m long dual carriageway bridges.
