About Tim Bergen

For some people, the term “serial entrepreneur” is considered a dirty word. To me it’s something to be proud of. This is because I grew up in the family’s businesses, all of which were run by my father, another serial entrepreneur. With years of immensely valuable mentorship and a “school of hard knocks” education, I believe my business skills are more than equal to many experienced MBAs. After selling the family auto auction business to Adesa, which is the 2nd largest auto auction in North America, I spent the next 25 years leading large-scale greenfield energy and resource infrastructure developments. Some of my experiences include: • Partnering a greenfield coal resource with Peter Kewitt & Sons and Black Hills Generation to move the $1B 500 MW Minemouth power plant project to bankable feasibility. • Visionary founder of a wind energy company, Vindt Resources, and assembled an 800 MW wind energy resource pipeline in Southern Alberta. Though it was sold out in 2007/8, the project is still a going concern, which was purchased by Algonquin Power & Utilities. • Acting as CEO for a junior public mining company and successfully implementing a consolidation and expansion strategy of mom-and-pop coal mining operations in Alabama. • Holding roles as a director or officer within publicly traded companies over 14 years. • Founding a vision to discover and develop silica sand resources in Western Canada for frac sand production. Today one project is in production and two are in late stage permitting. These days I am inspired to change how the future does energy. I have curated a team, which I affectionately refer to as “The Village.” Together we have founded ION Charge Corp. and are building an iconic energy brand a few megawatts at a time.
