About Tim Blanton

Graduated High School in 1974. Went to college in the fall of 1975. Left school and joined the US Marine Corps Reserve in 1978. Served as radio operator and in the weapons platoon of India Co, 3rd Battalion of the 28th Regiment. Was discharged in 1980 due to injury received while on manuevers at Camp Pendleton. Returned to college and worked my way through school getting a degree in History in 1982. Worked in Nashville for 2 years then returned to the Marine Corps choosing to stay in the regular enlisted ranks. Rose from PFC to Corporal. in 13 months. Served 2 years at the Command Element 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit rising to Sergeant of the Comm Platoon before returning to my parent command. While at 3rd LAAM Bn, I was placed in charge of the Comm Platoon and received my Navy Achievment Medal for work done on the cruises with the MEU. Was medically released due to injuries to the knee and shoulder while on the last cruise. Departed the Corps the last day of 1988. Came to Jacksonville and joined the Jacksonville Port Authority as a Harbormaster in 1989 and married my wife. Have been here for almost 28 years and learned a lot. Hope to finish out in just a few years.
