About Tim Bowron

I absolutely love spending time outdoors, whether it's going for a run by the river or immersing myself in the beauty of the mountains. Throughout my 10 years of working with youth, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of nature in recognizing and recovering from trauma. Parks and green spaces hold immense importance in enhancing both mental and physical health, serving as places for play, relaxation, and human connection. During my time as the Recreation Outdoor Mentorship Program Coordinator at Woods Homes, I had the privilege of developing and facilitating sport and play curriculum aimed at engaging and supporting youth in care. It was incredibly rewarding to witness their growth and progress. Over the years, I received the honor of being awarded the Excellence in Service twice and Extraordinary Service once, which validated my ability to engage individuals and groups with challenging histories. One of my proudest accomplishments was successfully expanding the program from approximately 80 youth in the first year to over 300 in the fourth year. This growth reflected the program's positive impact and its ability to reach and benefit more young individuals. Subsequently, my journey led me to the City of Calgary, where I was recognized with the Star of Excellence for my contribution to the recreation centennial celebration. Through my efforts, I created a collaborative partnership between the local library and recreation center, fostering a vibrant community connection and enhancing the celebration's impact. For nearly a decade, I have dedicated myself to the non-profit sector, working with esteemed organizations such as Woods Homes, Boys and Girls Club, and Scouts Canada. These experiences have allowed me to contribute to the development and implementation of preventative social programs. Furthermore, as the Chair of the Action Committee On Recreation Needs and Services (A.C.O.R.N.S) at Woods Homes, I take on the responsibility of conducting risk assessments for various recreation activities within the agency, ensuring the utmost safety and success. In summary, my passion lies in harnessing the power of outdoor activities and recreation to promote the well-being of individuals, especially youth. My background, marked by the growth of programs, recognition for excellence, and collaboration with diverse organizations, showcases my expertise and commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.
