About Tim Burnett

I am an experienced academic, specialising in teaching quantitative methods, with a strong history of leadership in curriculum design, development of progressive pedagogical approaches, and active interests in education-focussed research into diversity, inclusion, and inclusive administrative processes. Though mainly education-focussed, I continue to pursue,(mainly applied) research focussed on issues of competition, regulation, and management in privatised industries. I presently work at Aston University as a Senior Lecturer in Economics where I deliver a range of experiential applied quantitative modules using R, Stata, and Excel. I am also actively engaged in research into diversity and inclusion in economics and co-authored the Royal Economic Society's 2023 report looking at diversity in the economics pipeline. I am also co-organiser of the Birmingham Economics Education Seminars (BEES); a groundbreaking collaborative venture between three universities aimed at promoting best practice in education, and fostering opportunities for research and the researchers of tomorrow. Previously I worked in Liberal Arts at Warwick where I designed flexible learning frameworks, such as systems analysis, that students could use within transdisciplinary Problem-based Learning environments to address and understand complex societal issues.
