About Tim Childs

I learned my trade after starting an apprenticeship in Electrical Installation for MA Cooper. I gained 7 years of experience in electrical contracting, mainly industrial and commercial work. I went from apprentice to qualified electrician, and then approved electrician after completing Inspection and Testing 2391. I started working for Freedom Group in 2012 on the HV Maintenance team. Our job was to provide an Operational and Maintenance service to private HV customers such as JCB, Unilever, Kimberly Clark to name a few. Our main aim was to provide preventative maintenance, i.e. servicing of equipment such as OCB’s VCB’s GCB’s ACB’s as well as maintaining transformers. I was also on call to provide a fault service to our customers. Throughout my time on the maintenance team I gained Scottish Power authorisation SB-1, SR-3, EN-1, WI-1, WL-1.05, 1.07, 1.08. I transferred from the Maintenance section to the Scottish Power Asset Replacement section within Freedom at the start of 2018. Since then I have been on the RMU and Transformer replacement team, upgrading equipment in 500kva distribution substations. I carry our Stage 1 testing through to Stage 3 testing and install all associated solkor wiring as well as replacing the old equipment for new.
