Background
About Tim Defranco
I am currently pursuing a master's in nuclear engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I graduated with undergraduate research distinction from The Ohio State University (OSU) with a BS in aerospace and a minor in nuclear engineering. I am currently a researcher with the Nuclear Oriented Materials & Examination (NOME) Laboratory at UMich under Dr. Kevin Field and a former member of the Nuclear Thermal Propulsion (NTP) group at tOSU under Dr. John Horack. Under Dr. Field, I am working on a project investigating the application and formulation of Yttrium Hydride clays to be utilized within a custom low-cost 3D printing method for compact reactor core technologies. Under Dr. Horack, I completed an undergraduate thesis project on the "Investigation into the diffusion bonding of 316L SS and Boron Carbide for Radiation Shielding in NTP applications" and plan to continue this work.
