About Tim Espinosa

Tim's leadership and pedagogical approach revolve around a holistic, multicultural perspective, through which he presents theatre training. His primary research focus involves developing pedagogical strategies that empower students and faculty to advocate for social justice and challenge systems of oppression within the craft of theatre arts. Tim currently serves as the chair of the theater division at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Recently, Tim has had the privilege of serving as an assistant professor of musical theatre performance at the renowned Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre, University of Oklahoma. Additionally, he founded and led the musical theatre program at Fullerton College in Southern California. Tim actively contributes to the field through his involvement in various roles outside of the classroom. He served as the Lead Diversity Officer for the Musical Theatre Educators' Alliance and founded MTEA's Committee on Representation, Equity, and Inclusion. In these capacities, he facilitated numerous industry discussions on best practices to promote antiracist policies within theatre education. Tim has also spearheaded significant panels addressing crucial topics, such as Race, Equity, and Inclusion in Theatre performance, and the development of an anti-racist theatre arts performance curriculum. Tim has conducted international workshops titled "Reclaiming the Narrative," aimed at guiding faculty and staff in creating anti-racist and safe learning environments for theater students. These workshops cover a wide range of topics, including Establishing Safe Learning Spaces, Anti-Racist Pedagogical Performance Strategies, Creating Equitable Casting, Rehearsal, and Production Policies, as well as Equity in Student Recruitment. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater from California State University at Fullerton and a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from Brandeis University. Tim has taught numerous courses in Theater Arts, including global perspectives of theater, acting, directing, musical theatre performance, pop/rock musical styles, and multicultural perspectives of musical theatre. Tim's acting career has seen him perform for international audiences in esteemed venues. Some of his notable acting credits include appearances at Goodspeed, Papermill Playhouse, American Repertory Theatre, North Shore Music Theater, New Repertory Theatre, Utah Shakespeare Festival, and The Berkshire Theatre Festival, among others.
