About Tim Eviston

Key interests: Nerve injury and repair, head and neck surgery, facial nerve disorders and facial reanimation, commercialisation of early-stage technology I am a practicing surgeon with a passion for translational clinical research and team building. This includes coordinating large scale multisite clinical projects and multidisciplinary collaboration. The invention and development of new and emerging technologies from "bench to bedside" is a particular interest of mine. I have research collaborations extending across biotech, material science, biomedical engineering and medical device development in Australia and the United States. Achievements: I graduated medicine at UNSW with 1st class honours, a high distinction average and the Ian Webster medal. In my 3rd clinical year I was awarded a place in the prestigious Surgical Education and Training (SET) scheme by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. After developing my surgical skills I completed a PhD in translational neuroscience at UNSW. I was awarded a highly competitive NHMRC postgraduate scholarship for this endeavour. Select recent achievements include- presenting at multiple national and international conferences on nerve injury- being a founding member of the first multidisciplinary facial nerve clinic in Australia (Sydney Facial Nerve Service)- publishing in high impact scientific journals- founding a specialist therapeutics company (IntraVital Pty Ltd) to bring novel nerve protection therapies to market- identifying new molecular targets in the treatment of facial palsy. Outside of the medical and academic arena I am a keen photographer and traveller and have a passion for innovation.
