About Tim Glover

My name is Tim. I work with the Crisis Intervention and Urgent Care Team for the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Community Services Board in Ashland Virginia(Close to the capital of Virginia-Richmond). I am a CERTIFIED PEER RECOVERY SPECIALIST and I work with my mentally ill peers who are in crisis and have come in contact with law enforcement. My PEER to PEER SUPPORT takes place in the Emergency Room of a Local Hospital. My Peers are pre-screened to determine if they should be admitted to a Psychiatric Unit where ever we can find a bed. My PEERS are in handcuffs from the time they are under Emergency Custody Order until they are transported by local police to the Psychiatric Unit. Peer Support can mean many things. It depends on the Peer in Crisis. I am the "FACE OF RECOVERY" to my Peers, Co-workers, Family, Friends, Families of my Peers and the General Public. AS a CPRS, I must be willing and able to share my story about my experience with Mental Illness. I was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 Disorder with Psychotic Features when I was 37 back in 1996. Since then, I have been diagnosed with ADD,OCD and PTSD. I suffered quite a bit of childhood trauma including sexual molestation multiple times. My mother and my younger sister both have a diagnosis of Bipolar 1 Disorder, Mental Illness has been part of my life since the day I was born. I have been hospitalized in Psychiatric Units in various states and hospitals, I have lots of experience in trying to commit suicide. Suicide is no longer a option. I have been in active RECOVERY for 4 years, I facilitate a Depression Bipolar Support Alliance Peer to Peer Support Group. I am a board member of 3 mental health Non-Profit Organizations. I am a advocate and I help with educating our law makers about mental illness and substance abuse. I live each day with my mental illness and I tackle my life one day at a time in the hopes of keeping my RECOVERY alive
