About Tim Gu

I am a Software Engineer & Researcher with a combined 3 years of professional and internship experience in machine learning and building large-scale data infrastructures in the cloud. I am currently pursuing a Master's degree at the University of Toronto where my research focuses on developing and optimizing multi-cloud distributed machine learning pipelines with deep learning techniques. I help companies such as Huawei, AWS, and Wayfair develop machine-learning solutions and manage data infrastructure at scale. Some of the examples of my work include- Built and trained custom machine learning models at Huawei for data-driven network optimization. Consistently obtained results within 95% of the theoretical optimum while offering acceleration- Developed and integrated business intelligence pipelines at AWS with Lambda, Spark, Glue, DynamoDB, Athena, and Reshift for the CloudFormation Modules feature-Automating data verification at Wayfair for multiple data stores including MySQL, VerticaSQL, PostgreSQL, GCP, and MS Access, saving 8+ hours of manual work per week. I find joy in building and managing large-scale infrastructures in the cloud, and I am passionate about developing data-driven solutions for unique problems with a combination of traditional data analytic techniques and machine learning.
