About Tim Henkel

Tim is a retired MnDOT Assistant Commissioner for the Modal Planning and Program Management Division at the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT). He managed the Offices of Asset Management, Passenger Rail, Transportation System Management, Freight and Commercial Vehicle Operations, Transit, Aeronautics, Transportation Data and Analysis, and Research & Innovation. Mr. Henkel's 38+ year transportation career included working with local government, the private sector and numerous MnDOT responsibilities including executive leadership of multimodal planning, program management, and project development & delivery. Mr. Henkel was the Chair of the TRB Asset Management Committee, the AASHTO Committee on Performance-Based Management, the National Transportation Asset Management Expert Task Group, the Chair of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Research and Technology Coordinating Committee, and is the Chair or member of many National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) panels including the PIARC Technical Committee TC 1.2 Planning Road Infrastructure and Transport to Economic and Social Development. He also was the Chair of numerous State and Local Committees including the Minnesota Council on Transportation Access.
