Introduced to computers at a young age, I have spent my life working in and around technologies. As a freshman in college, I was introduced to programming. Its power blew my mind and led me to move 1300 miles to a new school and change my major. For me it was a revelation. As a lifelong athlete, student, and engineer I’ve participated on many successful and unsuccessful teams. I’m Tim McCauley, an experienced engineering manager with a lifelong love of technology. I’d be proud to serve as your next Engineering manager. What specifically would I bring into a software engineering manager role? Over ten years of management experience. As a manager of teams for over a decade, I’ve got proven skills in delivering high quality software and managing high quality, inclusive, and geographically distributed development and validation teams. Self-motivated problem solver. Engineering management is a constant balancing act of scope, resources, time, and quality. I’ve got experience leading and delivering complex, distributed projects as a validation lead, engineering lead, project manager, and engineering manager. I’ve worked on many projects and with many teams. Problems are constant. Approaching them in a constructive, organized, data driven manner is essential in breaking them down and finding solutions. Adaptable in dynamic environments. An effective leader understands people and team dynamics and effectively adapts to change. Over time, technology and processes evolve and eventually get replaced. I’ve worked through this process many times with source code, defect tracking, product requirements, database schemas, tools, and programming languages. Adaptation requires a vision of a better future, a thirst for learning new things, and the determination to work through the challenges. Committed coach, mentor, and teacher. Connecting with people to understand what intrinsically motivates them and then assisting them in growing their voice and their capability is at the heart of being a good leader.
