Please stroll with me through a bit of memory lane to understand how I know communications and San Diego County. Did you listen to the Editors' Roundtable on KPBS FM between 1997 and July 2009? Did you read San Diego Metropolitan between September 1996 and June 2009 or have heard about the 40 Under 40 program that for nearly two decades has honored young professionals? Perhaps you were a subscriber to the Kiplinger California Newsletter? Do you remember when the broadsheet Daily Transcript had a rocking City Hall presence, led the way on tourism reporting and produced a newsy, sharp and sometimes snarky Local Scene column that was a must-read each morning for those who wanted to be in the know? Do you recall how County Supervisor Ron Roberts developed the most visible and engaging social media presence of any member of the Board of Supervisors, and how he used it for nine years to advance policies and initiatives that included opening a world-class public waterfront park, public safety technology, transit expansion and homeless initiatives? If so, then you've seen, read or heard my work. I spent the first part of my career slinging words in print, over the air and across the Web. I spent a brief second part managing teams, projects and organizations that do it in San Diego's business landscape. Companies relied on me to help them tell their story right and broadcast it on paper and in electronic format. In summer 2009 I moved into government relations, working for a visionary political leader who made San Diego a better place to live. Now I'm working for an agency that has the vision, and track record, to change people's lives for the better. Fortunately, I am extremely interested in government, having digested dozens of budgets and hundreds of reports and agenda items during a quarter century in journalism, and then spent nine years authoring and editing those reports for a legendary elected official. Upward and onward.
