Background
About Tim Muench
I’m a Professional Engineer with industry experience in Robotic System Integration and Automation prior to entering Engineering Education. My current position is Program Head of the Design and Manufacturing Engineering Technology Program at SaskPolytech, and Research Chair in Additive and Advanced Manufacturing, where I collaborate with industry to assist them in product prototyping and design. In the past I have instructed courses related to Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing), Prototyping, Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), CNC machine tools, Robotic Welding, Computer Networking, 3D CAD / Solid Modeling, Concurrent Engineering (Integrated Engineering Design) and Quality Assurance. I have worked with Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) since 1995 when it was known as Rapid Prototyping, and have develop an Additive Manufacturing Boot Camp for industry, with support from the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME). I work in a team environment with engineers from a variety of areas of expertise, and supervise a group of Engineers and Engineering Technologists. I worked for 10 years as Associate Professor of Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, and holder of the Listwin Family Chair in Innovative Teaching, focusing on Engineering Design. I am passionate about leveraging computers and new technology in engineering design and manufacturing, and applying integrated hands-on projects to encourage passion and creativity in aspiring engineering designers. Practical problems drive enthusiasm for learning. I am a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and an M.Sc. in Control Systems related to Robotics from the University of Saskatchewan. I also completed the bulk of an Interdisciplinary PhD Program between the Colleges of Engineering and Education at the U of S, related to the Teaching of Engineering Design. I was also one of 20 Finalists for the Canadian Astronaut Program from a field of 5,300 scientists and engineers. I’m always looking to connect with former and prospective colleagues. Tim
