1975-1977: Employed full-time by Kenyon & Eckhardt Advertising, New York City office. Assistant studio manager illustrating storyboards and ads for Ford Motor Company, Helena Rubenstein, many other K&E clients. Promoted to assistant art director on the Ford account; created print and television ads. 1977-78: Freelance design and illustration. Illustrated Oak Publications books, created spot illustrations for Ziff-Davis family of magazines and The New York Times; editorial cartoons for various publications. 1978-1983: Associate art director, Forbes Magazine. Redesign of the magazine won a first-place award for best national magazine redesign in 1979. 1983-1986: Art Director, International Coins & Currency, Montpelier, VT 1986-present: Operate a graphic design and illustration business in Montpelier, firstly under the name of Editing & Design Publication Services. The name later changed to Newcomb Studios. I have designed books, magazines, annual reports, brochures, logos, trade show displays for businesses nationwide. My political cartoons have appeared weekly since 1983 in magazines and newspapers, winning a New England Press Association award for Best Political Cartoon in 1987. Published “Vermont Subversions”, a collection of editorial cartoons in 1987. “A Gaggle of Governors”, a 25-year retrospective of cartoons was published in November, 2008. I've won first or second prize for political cartooning in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 in the Association of Alternative Newsmedia's annual competition for member newspapers across the U.S. and Canada.
