About Tim Nicholls

Tim graduated with a law degree from the Queensland University of Technology in 1989. He practiced as a lawyer until he was elected to the Brisbane City Council in March Prior to being elected to State Parliament in 2006, Tim served as Councillor for Hamilton Ward in Brisbane City Council for six years and established a strong record of delivering for his local community. In August 2008, he was appointed Shadow Treasurer. He was elected Deputy Leader of the Opposition in March 2011 and has broad experience after serving on many Parliamentary committees. Tim served as Queensland’s Treasurer and Minister for Trade until February 2015. As Treasurer, he led the LNP Government’s significant fiscal reform agenda, including implementing the recommendations of Queensland’s Independent Commission of Audit. He led the LNP’s drive for more efficient government while still delivering major infrastructure such as the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing, the Gateway Motorway North Upgrade and record investment in the Bruce Highway. In May 2016, he became Queensland Leader of the Opposition. Following the 2017 election Tim stepped down as Leader. In Feb 2018 he was appointed Chair of the Qld Parliamentary Crime & Corruption Committee overseeing the States corruption watchdog, the He was also appointed Deputy Chair of the Parliament’s Ethics Committee charged with upholding the standing orders and rules of the Qld Parliament. After the 2020 Qld election Tim was appointed the Shadow Attorney General and Minister for Justice.
