About Tim Pollard

Tim Pollard is Associate Dean Emeritus for Academic Affairs and Student Relations in the College of Communication, Information, and Media at Ball State University. He provided managerial oversight for academic programs, supported faculty development and ensured positive student relations in the college. From 2011 to 2017, he served as chair of the Department of Telecommunications. During that time, Mr. Pollard supervised a staff of 27 full time faculty; 9 graduate assistants; and, 1 administrative coordinator. He is the recipient of 2 regional Emmy Awards®, 5 CINDY Awards®, and 4 Accolade Awards®. Before Ball State, Tim Pollard spent 15 years at CNN. From 1994 to 1998, he was the operations manager for CNN's Washington, D.C, bureau. In this capacity, he was responsible for all air product emanating from Washington. This included both radio and TV. Mr. Pollard was also the operational liaison with the other television networks in Washington concerning “pooled” coverage of events. During his tenure, CNN was pool producer for President Clinton’s State of the Union message, the Republican response, Oval Office speeches, and White House South Lawn events. He was operations manager for several “Larry King Live” programs involving Washington dignitaries including: 1) the first live interview with President Clinton and Vice President Gore from the White House, and 2) the first U.S. interview with Yassar Arafat after his meeting with President Clinton. Lastly, he was responsible for all entry-level news hires within the bureau and he handled capital and operating budgets for the bureau on a yearly basis. From 1984 to 1994, Tim Pollard was field operations supervisor for CNN’s field operations department. He helped cover seven Presidential conventions; all Reagan-Gorbachev summits; Bush-Gorbachev summits; Emperor Hirohito’s funeral from Tokyo; post-Gulf War tour of the Middle East; and, most major domestic stories during these ten years.
