Background
About Tim Pullen
I have a unique combination of experience and qualifications, specialising in impact investment. Currently, I am the Business Development Manager at Healthy North Coast, an independent not-for-profit organisation that delivers the NSW North Coast Primary Health Network (PHN) program. I am also Managing Director at Impactive Partners and an Honorary Fellow at the University of Queensland. Previously, I was an Investment Specialist at the Cornerstone Group, an integrated healthcare development group. During my extended, fixed-term contract, I provided high-value strategic advice to the group board, CEO and senior management. I was a Sessional Researcher at the Centre for Social Impact (CSI). Alongside this appointment, I was exploring a range of innovative impact investment strategies. I was a Research Fellow, Social Finance, at CSI. I was a Project Manager and Researcher for a number of highly significant social impact projects. The projects included: the development of Seedkit an online data and evaluation platform for social enterprises; the evaluation of the costs of impact for jobs-focused social enterprises; the synthesis of domestic and international literature and CSI research related to outcome funds; and the development and implementation of a framework that holistically evaluated the implementation and outcomes of the Australian Department of Social Services Payment by Outcomes Trial 3. I was a Manager in the Impact Investing team at Social Ventures Australia (SVA). I managed investments across SVA’s $15m Diversified Impact Fund and $91m Social Impact Investment Trust (HESTA-funded). I gained exposure to debt, equity and hybrid investments across a range of sectors including: age care; specialist disability accommodation; social and affordable housing; mental health and wellbeing services; and disability support services. I was also an Executive in the founding years of Catapult Partners, an independent corporate advisory and proprietary investment firm. I gained broad listed and unlisted market experience across equity raisings, debt raisings, investments and divestments. I hold a finance PhD from the University of Queensland. I utilised quantitative and qualitative research methods to assess social impact bonds and venture capital impact investments. I presented my research at domestic and international conferences; consulted to industry; and attended the Oxford Impact Investing Programme. I also hold a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours, Class 1) and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Queensland.
