About Tim Richards

With over 40 years of extensive experience in fire and emergency services, I have developed a diverse background in leadership, administration, and operations. As Fire Chief for the City of Bonner Springs, KS, I provide strategic oversight of all fire and EMS services while serving as a City’s Executive Team member. My career includes key leadership with the Olathe, KS, Fire Department, where I served for 32 years and retired in 2019. I provided oversight and direction to teams in administration, special operations, community risk reduction, training, emergency management, and emergency response. I am an active contributor to fire service excellence through my role as a peer assessor for the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) and have participated in multiple site visits for the Center for Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). Additionally, I serve as a Chief Fire Officer Designation evaluator for CFAI, supporting the development of fire service leaders nationwide. I have been committed to advancing public safety and employee safety through operational and administrative capacities. I have led departments through complex challenges, including policy development, training initiatives, emergency management strategies, and interagency collaboration. My leadership spans rural, suburban, and urban environments, equipping me with the expertise to engage effectively with many different types of individuals and agencies.
