About Tim Smith

With over 25 years of professional experience, I specialize in international supply chain operations and business development, navigating complex environments. My expertise includes supply chain optimization, humanitarian logistics, procurement, transport contracting and warehousing contracting, digitalization, and sustainability. I have a proven track record in securing and successfully executing large-scale 3PL and 4PL projects. I started my career as a Cargo Surveyor and Marine Investigator in South Africa, the UK and Russia. I then served for 7 years as a Logistics Officer and Port Captain for the United Nations World Food Programme in various locations including North Korea and Sierra Leone. I then worked as Vice President with two of the largest global supply chain organisations, Kuehne+Nagel and DHL. After a year as Commercial Solutions Director with DP World company Imres, I am now Global Lead for UN, Government and NGO services. My roles have always involved leading strategic engagements, including my inter-agency role at UN World Food Programme where I served as Global Head of the Logistics Cluster, an inter-agency coordination mechanism to coordinate logistics for humanitarian emergency response. Other key skills include supply chain operations management (seaports, airports and overland), supply chain optimisation, performance management and P&L management.
