About Tim Ward

Hi there I am currently co-ordinator of assistive technology for Sight Advice South Lakes in Cumbria and the Eye Clinic Liason Officer at Westmorland General Hospital. I provide information, emotional and practical support to visually impaired people across South Lakes, with a focus on assessing and training people in new and existing technologies and to engage them in appropriate technology. I can also suggest technologies e.g wearable technology, voice enabled technology, magnification, lighting, phones, tablets etc. that can enhance a persons life. For example I can assist people in how to use their iPad/tablets, laptops. desktops to the best potential to complement any sight impairment, enabling people to carry on reading, studying, buying goods on line etc. Also people may need an individual piece of technology in order for them to achieve a particular outcome, this may be as simple as better lighting, a talking book, Amazon Alexa or a magnifying device. i can help with all these. I also work directly with Ophthalmic clinicians via an NHS monthly Low Vision Clinic where a full holistic assessment of a persons sight and social care needs occurs. I am also involved with several assistive technology projects that will make sections of society more accessible for people with sight loss. One is designing worlds first “ audio only” computer game with Lancaster University. Another is making a local North of England train line accessible with a technology known as Navilens, a code / navigation system from Spain. I am co- founder of the award winning Rainbow Group that hosts technology and health events on Zoom with 6 other small sight loss organisations. Also co winner of Visionary UK Rainbow award in 2021 and Winner of Visionary Uk “Inspire” award 2022.
