The manufacturing landscape in Australia is not dying … it’s changing! With the rise of automation, new-age technologies (robotics and cobotics), lean/green production, diversity and disruptive innovation, it’s vital that companies embrace change to remain viable. Over the last 19 years with Socobell, I’ve helped them—combat threats in the marketplace, supplier shutdowns and industry shrinkage—to evolve into Australia’s leading plastic injection moulding company. As the driving force behind product and market diversity, superior machinery fleets, state-of-the-art facilities, operational shifts and a pioneering approach to customer solutions, I’ve contributed to impressive results in all areas of operations. There’s no exact title for what I do. I’m a hybrid of technical engineer, operational strategist, and business builder. Here are a few of the ways I’ve helped Socobell succeed: As Engineering and Purchasing Manager, I mitigated major threats to business continuity as a result of the closure of key suppliers, by tactically and swiftly appointing and developing new suppliers and negotiating significant savings in the process. As Engineering Program Manager, I created an engineering division complete with a new culture, policies and vision and managed a multimillion-dollar design and development project involving over 100 new machine tools, substantial investment in plant and equipment and 100s of high quality projects. As Project Engineer and Coordinator, I realised savings for customers and Socobell, as project lead for multimillion-dollar contracts, overseeing product and tool design, managing prototype tool and part builds and conducting testing and assembly trials. A problem solver at heart, I accept challenges others would reject. As a qualified industrial engineer and operational leader, I have a deep understanding of the technical and operational aspects that make businesses profitable and go to great lengths to unearth solutions for my company and customers.
