About Tim Wilms

I am an applied marine ecologist with a solid background in field monitoring and statistical data analysis. During my PhD studies, I have specialized in marine habitat restoration (with a focus on rocky reef ecosystems) and the use of non-invasive monitoring methods to test different restoration techniques and their effects on the abundance and diversity of marine organisms. I therefore have extensive experience with the design of impact assessment studies and the extraction and analysis of relevant metrics to guide management efforts. My interests and current activities relate to improving our understanding on how to conserve and promote marine life under the ever-expanding human footprint on ocean ecosystems. Ongoing efforts include: 1) The ecological enhancement of port infrastructure, including seawalls and rip rap 2) Designing coastal reefs for the dual purpose of shoreline protection and biodiversity conservation 3) Assessments on the effects of offshore structures (oil & gas platforms and wind farms) on fish and fisheries
