About Tim Xu

With a B.S. in Chemistry from UC San Diego, graduating cum laude, I bring hands-on experience in novel organic polymer synthesis and genomic research. In the Romero Polymer Lab, I conducted independent research focused on discovering alternative synthesis methods for π-conjugated polymers, where I synthesized unique arylsulfonium salts and optimized polymerization conditions for higher MW polymers. My work culminated in a presentation to an academic audience, showcasing my findings and analytical skills. Following this, I joined the Wang Lab, where I applied the Hi-C genomic technique to study 3D chromosomal interactions in leukemia patient cell samples. There, I gained further expertise in advanced laboratory procedures, from reagent preparation to precise pipetting, which strengthened my technical adaptability. My technical skills include IR, NMR, UV/Vis spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, chromatography, and proficiency with lab equipment such as the Schlenk line, MALDI-TOF, and HPLC. I am certified in First Responder & CPR/AED Level C, fluent in Mandarin and conversational in French. Passionate about pushing the boundaries of scientific research, I am excited to contribute to impactful and innovative work in the field of chemistry.
