About Tim Ziegler

As an experimental physicist with a proven track record of delivering impactful results, I am passionate about pushing the boundaries of existing technology by developing disruptive strategies through cutting-edge research. I specialised in ultra-high intensity laser-plasma interactions and plasma-based accelerators. My work focuses on novel compact and energy-efficient particle accelerators for both research and practical applications, utilising high-power lasers. A key aspect of my research involves the integration of laser diagnostics and operational techniques to enhance control over interaction conditions, thereby improving the particle beam quality. Through extensive experiments on high-power laser systems, I have thoroughly investigated the effects of laser parameters on plasma-based ion acceleration, leading to significant breakthroughs previously thought unattainable. By combining experimental findings with numerical simulations, I have gained valuable insights into the detailed plasma dynamics during the interaction of ultrashort laser pulses with plasma under different conditions. With my creativity, curiosity, perseverance and scientific rigour, I enjoy exploring unconventional approaches and pushing the boundaries of what is possible. I am also passionate about travelling, have intercultural competence and enjoy giving presentations and engaging with people.
