About Timmy Basista

As a vocal advocate in the LGBTQ+ community, I strive to find ways of giving the voiceless visibility, safety, and an opportunity to thrive. Coupled with my passion for eradicating unfair practices in employment and education, I tutor one-on-one with a variety of students. I strive to meet every client where they're at by active listening, collaborating to set and achieve client-driven goals while facilitating positive individual growth. My experience as a non-binary, trans person has illuminated some of the more prejudiced, pre-conceived notions that strangers, colleagues, friends, and family have - by responding with listening, education, and confidence, my allies and I help combat misinformation and lift up those in the trans community. Education is a powerful tool to ending inequality. My eight years in chemistry have forged my ability to break down complex subject matter into easily accessible, bite-sized chunks that I can present to those without scientific backgrounds. Additionally, experience in tutoring and sales enable me to engage with others on their own turf while respecting the differences between me and my clients. Thus, my expertise in these areas has allowed me to connect those without resources to companies, non-profits, and individuals who have an abundance of resources and ability to close gaps in education, employment, health outcomes, and finances. I recognize that I come from a position of privilege and that my perspective on the world is not universal or always accurate. Only by consistently listening to people who are not like me and giving them a platform can I help rectify the relentless cycle of injustices.
