About Timo Rotonen

I’m a design lead with 25 years in digital product and service design, the past 14+ of them at Reaktor. I thrive where ambiguity meets action: helping teams and clients make sense of complex, fuzzy situations, form clarity and turn them into measurable outcomes. My work spans strategy, product visioning and concept design. From early-stage visioning to shipping real products and improving them iteratively. My focus is on getting good ideas into production. I work closely with engineers, product owners, and stakeholders to turn design into working services, learn from real usage, and keep improving until the experience truly supports both people and the business. Progress happens when design and delivery stay connected. Over the years, I’ve led design in industries including finance, healthcare, public broadcasting, education and travel for clients like OP Corporate Bank, Mehiläinen, Yle, YTL, Air France–KLM and Tallink. Whether it’s defining a long-term product vision or improving daily workflows in a complex domain, I aim to create clarity, reduce friction, and help teams build confidence in what to do next. Lately I’ve been working hands-on with AI-driven tools and workflows, building real software and learning how these technologies are reshaping what design work even is. The familiar boundaries between design, engineering, and data are starting to blur, and entirely new kinds of work are emerging. The only way to understand that shift is by doing: experimenting with real use cases, production systems and live data to see where real value, new roles and new ways of working actually form. I’m a collaborator at heart. I work best in cross-functional teams that share curiosity, honesty and a sense of humor. I’m comfortable with uncertainty, allergic to unnecessary corporate fluff and happiest when strategy leads to something people can actually use by balancing exploration with the discipline of shipping. Outside work, I DJ, run three vinyl record labels and tend to the beautiful chaos of family life in eastern Helsinki.
