About Timothy Barchak

Tim Barchak has more than 30 years of experience as an advocate. He was active as a campus organizer at Avila College in Kansas City, Missouri. This activism caught the attention of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) which recruited him for an organizer upon graduation. He served SEIU as both an organizer and political operative in the central states region and in the state of Oregon. Tim Barchak continued to take on roles in Labor, advocacy, and policy. Tim was the political director for the Kansas City AFL-CIO. He was also Director of Policy for the Missouri Senate Democratic Caucus. Eventually he found his way to the National Education Association (NEA) family and worked with Missouri NEA, and Delaware State Education Association before coming to NEA in Washington, DC. He has been an organizer, an union representative and negotiator, a political director, a lobbyist, and a policy analyst. Tim is currently a senior policy analyst with NEA specializing in policy issues that pertain to education support professionals, including privatization."My entire career has been in advocacy. But I have found a real calling in public policy. I am able to bring all my field experience to that job, so that policy is seen from the perspective of the organizer, the advocate, and the stakeholder."
