About Timothy Demaro

I am a current first-year M.S. student studying Robotics Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. In May of 2023, I graduated the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Control and Mechanical Systems. There I conducted independent, faculty-advised research into furthering the capabilities of a recently-developed soft everting toroidal robot in the Notre Dame IRIS Lab, research in FDM 3D-printing technologies in kinematic mechanisms in the Plecnik Lab, and had the opportunity to work with peers to design and simulate other robots and machines as part of my advanced courses. In the summer of 2022, I worked as an intern at NeuroLux Inc, leading a team of interns to design, construct, and code a miniature cyclic fatigue testing apparatus. I am interested in pursuing research and development of bio-assistive robotic systems, as well as robot/device morphology and control, in an industry setting. Studying the engineering curriculum at Notre Dame has assisted me in understanding physical situations both conceptually and analytically, given me opportunities to practice iterative design, and allowed me to learn to use MATLAB, Arduino C++, and SOLIDWORKS CAD/CAM to visualize systems and create physical solutions to the problems I encounter. I am particularly interested in inter-disciplinary study and using a wholistic education to approach challenges. To that end, I have taken additional credits to improve my German ability, study classical piano, and have been a member of the Notre Dame Glee Club for my four years at ND. I am skilled in communicating with others verbally and in writing, and am a very capable researcher. Additionally, I am a graduate of Regis High School, an Eagle Scout, and rather good at trivia, crosswords, and The Settlers of Catan.
