About Timothy Nohe

Timothy Nohe is a Tenured Professor of Visual Arts at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). With a career spanning art, academia, and leadership, he has made significant contributions to the fields of visual arts, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration. He currently serves as an Associate Dean in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences after working as Acting Chair of the Department of Emergency Disaster and Health Systems at UMBC. Nohe served as the President of UMBC's Faculty Senate, making valuable contributions to the university's governance and academic development. He was selected as an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow in 2020-2022. In 2021-2022, he worked closely with President Barbara Altmann and her leadership team at Franklin & Marshall College, gaining insights into higher education leadership and administration. His dedication to innovative research and the arts led to the founding of UMBC's Center for Innovation, Research, and Creativity in the Arts (CIRCA). Internationally, Timothy Nohe has established significant connections, particularly with Australia, where he served as a Fulbright Senior Scholar. He has exhibited presented his work in institutions across Europe, Australia, and the United States. His artistic and compositional contributions have enriched civic life and public spaces. Nohe's work has received widespread recognition, including multiple Maryland State Arts Council Awards and a Creative Baltimore Award. He also was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts and William G. Baker Fund's "Our Town Project - Creative Placemaking" grant to support My Station North, produced with elementary school children. With a commitment to the arts, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration, Timothy Nohe continues to inspire and lead in his field. His legacy extends through his art, his academic contributions, and his dedication to nurturing the next generation of artists and leaders.
