About Timothy Patrick

Upon graduating with distinction from the University of Guelph, I attended Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario where I received a scholarship to complete a Master’s Degree. I then attended law school at Queen’s University where I won entrance scholarships based on my academic achievements. I completed my articling period with one of Canada’s leading Labour and Employment law firms. I then worked for one of Ontario’s most respected litigation and employment law firms in Toronto. I have acted for major telecommunications companies, major newspapers, multinational investment banking firms and pulp and paper producers, major international retail stores and local businesses of all sizes. When representing employers I firmly believe that the lawyer’s role should be proactive and not simply reactive, advice should allow the employer to avoid legal problems or, where unavoidable, dramatically increase the chance of success at trial. I have taken my skills and experience as a labour and employment lawyer and I applied these within an employee relations context; this added new dimensions to my understanding of not only the legal side of employee relations but, importantly, has deepened my understanding of the day to day challenges and achievements of the high-performing human resources team I lead and has permitted me to develop pragmatic as well as legally sound solutions to workplace issues. I have also gained in-depth knowledge of the internal workings and needs of major financial institutions and large retailers. I am also a certified workplace investigator. Currently, I am working in an in-house employment law capacity with Scotiabank as part of an exceptional team of dedicated and talented lawyers.
